Mental Health Courts

Mental Health Courts are special courts that focus on people who have been charged with a crime and have a psychiatric disability.

The purpose of the court is to deal with the crime in a way that addresses the person's mental health needs. The mental disability is the focus rather than criminal behavior.

Treatment, medical care and supervision, case management, and service referral are primary ingredients of Mental Health Courts.
