How Do I Get a Copy of a Document in a Court File?

PLEASE NOTE: By law or court order, some documents in a court file may be "confidential," "expunged," or "sealed" and cannot be viewed or copied.

To get a copy of a document in a court file, such as a pleading, Order, or Judgment, you should contact the Court Administration office in the District Court where the case was filed. See District Court locations. Generally, court files are accessible at the courthouse, unless the case has been appealed. There may be a fee to get copies of court records, including a fee to have the court "certify" the copy.

Some court websites have links to "Records" that provide hours and locations for accessing court records. Click Find Your District for links to the District Court websites and further contact information.
