Judicial Council Announces Openings on the Committee for Equality and Justice

The Minnesota Judicial Council is seeking to appoint four individuals to the Committee for Equality and Justice. Committee members serve staggered three-year terms and no member shall serve more than two consecutive terms. The term begins January 1, 2014.
The Committee for Equality and Justice was established to advance the Judicial Branch's efforts to eliminate from court operations bias that is based on race, gender, ethnicity, age, disability, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual orientation, and any other status protected by law.
The Committee for Equality and Justice (CEJ) meets approximately four times per year in St. Paul. Meetings last from two to three hours. In addition, members participate in one or more subcommittees that meet in between the full CEJ meetings. The current subcommittees are as follows:
- Data Collection and Analysis
- Elimination of Barriers to Access
- Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity
- Racial Fairness
- Gender Fairness
Membership for the CEJ must reflect geographic and demographic diversity and will not exceed 33 members. Members of the public, justice system partners, attorneys, court staff, and judges are encouraged to apply.
