Minnesota Judicial Branch Celebrates Constitution Day with Online Video and Educational Resources

Posted: Tuesday, September 9, 2014

To help teachers, students and the public celebrate Constitution Day on September 17, the Minnesota Judicial Branch has created a webpage containing an array of educational resources on the United States and Minnesota Constitutions. These resources include a Constitution Day video message from Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie S. Gildea.

Constitution Day recognizes the signing and adoption of the United States Constitution in 1787.  Students in schools across Minnesota will be learning about the United States Constitution as part of the nationally observed day.

Informational materials are available in the “For Teachers and Students” section of the Minnesota Judicial Branch Website. Resources include links to the United States and Minnesota Constitutions, historical information related to the two documents, and summaries of state and federal court cases that explore key constitutional principles.

“Our nation’s democracy and our very freedoms as Americans have been protected by the Constitution for more than 225 years,” said Chief Justice Gildea. “Constitution Day is an opportunity for all of us to remember the important role the United States Constitution has played in shaping our nation, as well as an opportunity for Minnesotans to learn more about how our state’s Constitution shapes their government and protects and preserves their rights.”

The video message from the Chief Justice may also be viewed on the Minnesota Judicial Branch YouTube Channel at www.youtube.com/mnjudicialbranch.
