Going to Court

The 4th Judicial District Court handles cases in eight (8) buildings. Five of the buildings are in downtown Minneapolis and three are located in the suburbs. The buildings are managed by Hennepin County Property Services. Everyone who wants to access courtrooms must pass through weapons screening.

NOTICE: Major construction work has started in downtown Minneapolis near the courthouse. Finding a place to park can be difficult. Please allow extra time to get to court if you plan to drive downtown.

Find a Courtroom

Most Hennepin County courthouses have display monitors with information on hearings, including party names, courtroom numbers, and judges. Information on hearings is also available in Today's Court Calendar. If you cannot find a hearing location, contact Court Administration.

Give yourself enough time to get to the courthouse, park, pass through weapons screening, and find your courtroom. If you are even a few minutes late for your hearing, you may miss it. If you miss your hearing, you may not be allowed to reschedule it.

TIP: The Government Center has an A-Tower (for Administration) and a C-Tower (for Courts), and each tower has a weapons screening area on the Public Service Level (2nd floor). Weapons screening in the C-Tower is often busy, so it might be faster to go through weapons screening in the A-Tower, and then use one of the "bridge" floors to go back to the C-Tower and courtrooms.

  • Dress appropriately. Clean, neat and professional clothing is appropriate for court. Shorts, t-shirts, low necklines, and torn clothing are not appropriate.
  • In the courtroom, do NOT...chew gum or tobacco, eat, drink, read a newspaper, sleep, wear a hat, use earphones, or carry a weapon.
