Eric P. Schieferdecker Appointed to Fill Ninth Judicial District Vacancy

Today, Governor Mark Dayton announced the appointment of Mr. Eric P. Schieferdecker as District Court Judge in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District. Mr. Schieferdecker will be replacing the Honorable Donald J. Aandal, who resigned earlier this year. The judgeship will be chambered at Warren in Marshall County.

“I am pleased to appoint Eric Schieferdecker to serve as District Court Judge in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District,” said Governor Dayton. “Throughout his career, and through service to children and victims of crime, Mr. Schieferdecker has demonstrated his strong commitment to justice and to the betterment of his community. I am confident he will be an excellent judge.”

Mr. Schieferdecker is an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Minnesota, primarily prosecuting murder, drug, and implied consent cases in the Seventh and Ninth Judicial Districts. Previously, he was the Chief Assistant Beltrami County Attorney, and, prior to that, was an associate attorney at Drahos & Young in Bemidji, MN. Mr. Schieferdecker earned his B.A. from Minot State University and his J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law.

Additionally, Mr. Schieferdecker is a Students First Mentor at Bemidji High School and is a board member and vice-chair of Support Within Reach, a sexual violence resource center serving Aitkin, Beltrami, Cass, Hubbard, and Itasca Counties.

Mr. Schieferdecker resides in Bemidji, MN.
