Chief Justice Lorie S. Gildea announced today that Elizabeth K. Robb Reppe has been appointed State Law Librarian. Reppe currently serves as manager of the Dakota County Law Library in Hastings, MN. She will begin work on September 4.

“Liz has a varied background in law library management, private industry, and academia that makes her very well-suited to the important job of leading Minnesota’s State Law Library,” said Chief Justice Gildea in announcing the appointment.

Reppe has served as Manager of the Dakota County Law Library since 2008. Previously she served as the Washington County Law Librarian, Manager of Technology Product Development for Thomson-West in Eagan, MN, and Reference/Computer Services Librarian and Adjunct Professor at Hamline University.

Reppe is a graduate of Hamline University School of Law, and holds a M.L.I.S. (Masters Degree in Library Science) from Dominican University in River Forest, IL, and a B.S. from the University of North Dakota.

The Minnesota State Law Library, located in the Minnesota Judicial Center in St. Paul, serves state, county, and local government; the legal profession; and the general public, and collaborates with other national, state, county, and local libraries.

The Law Library exists to provide vital, timely, and efficient library services to the judiciary and the public seeking legal information. The Law Library is the oldest continuing library in the state of Minnesota and also one of the state's oldest institutions. The Library and the Territory of Minnesota were created by the same act of Congress on March 3, 1849. The act provided a $5,000 appropriation to establish a library that would be located at the seat of government. The Library was set up in the summer of 1849 in a small candlelit room on the second floor of St. Paul's "Central House," a tavern that also functioned as the home of the new territorial government.

From its humble beginning to the present time, the Minnesota State Law Library has been committed to the challenge of organizing and maintaining a collection of materials that meets the varied legal research needs of its users. Today, the Library is one of state's principal legal resource centers.
