Steele County Courthouse is Temporarily Closed

Due to a water pipe break in January 2017, the Steele County Courthouse in Owatonna was closed.  Renovations are still in progress, but Courtroom B on the top floor of the Courthouse is now reopened.  All jury trials will be conducted in Courtroom B until the Courthouse is fully reopened.
Steele County District Court’s primary location continues to be the Owatonna Fire Hall, located at 107 West Main Street, Owatonna, MN 55060. The customer service counter is on the first floor of the Fire Hall, and the main phone number for court administration is (507) 444-7701. The Fire Hall location also includes Courtroom A on the third floor. Please note that there is extremely limited space at the Fire Hall, and no confidential conference rooms are available for use. There are, however, public restrooms available, as well as an elevator.  Parking is not available in front of the Fire Hall entrance where there is a yellow curb, nor in front of the fire station garage. All persons who enter the Fire Hall for court business are subject to security searches.
Parking is still available in the parking lot at the Courthouse located at 111 East Main Street in Owatonna.
When Courtroom B at the Courthouse is not available, hearings for in custody criminal case defendants will continue to be held at the Steele County Adult Detention Center located at 2500 Alexander Street SW in Owatonna. The temporary courtroom there is designated as Courtroom D.
Child support magistrate and some other hearings will occasionally be held at the Steele County Boardroom, located at 630 Florence Avenue, which is designated as Courtroom C.
Court staff will make court calendar adjustments and notify parties of all courtroom location changes as soon as possible.
Customers paying a citation case are encouraged to use the pay by web or phone options. Other payments can be made by mailing a check or cashier’s check to the 107 West Main Street address.
