CLIENT SECURITY BOARD CHANGES
ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Client Security Board elected Robert T. Lund, an attorney from Bloomington, as its Chair. Mr. Lund will serve as Chair until his term on the Board expires on June 30, 2009. He has been a member of the Board since 2003. He is President and CEO of SFM Mutual Insurance Company.
The Minnesota Supreme Court appointed attorney Kenneth D. Butler of Duluth to serve on the Board through June 30, 2011. Mr. Butler is a private practitioner who owns his own law firm.
The Client Security Fund is a fund established by the Minnesota Supreme Court to reimburse clients who suffer loss of money or other property from the dishonest conduct of their attorney. The Fund is administered by a Board appointed by the Court, and consists of five lawyer members and two non-lawyer members. All serve without compensation as a public service.
The Client Security Fund covers most situations in which lawyers have stolen clients' money or other property entrusted to them. The Fund does not cover losses resulting from the malpractice or negligence of lawyers.
