Statewide Sentencing Order Resources
The Rules of Criminal Procedure were amended, effective July 1, 2010, to state that any court issuing a sentencing order under Minn. R. Crim. P. 27.03, subd. 7, must generate the order using the court's case management system. This sentencing order now serves as the official paper record of the sentence and ensures timely, accurate, and understandable information to both defendants and criminal justice agencies about the sentence.
The work to create a statewide sentencing order required collaboration with Judicial Branch justice partners. Following completion of complex technical development, MNCIS, the Judicial Branch's case management software, is now capable of producing a workable sentencing order.
The sentencing order must be issued in cases containing counts for which the offense level before sentencing was a felony or a gross misdemeanor. There is no requirement for its use following probation violation hearings.
