Minnesota's Drug Courts Featured in Broadcast
Thursday, August 13, 2009
Minnesotans will get an inside look at one of Minnesota's best known examples of problem-solving courts beginning Sunday, Aug. 16, when Twin Cities Public Television's Minnesota Channel (TPT-MN) rebroadcasts Drug Courts: Justice That Heals. The program is a co-production of the Minnesota Judicial Branch and TPT-Minnesota Channel.
Watch a Clip- "Drug Courts: Saving Money and Saving Lives"
The program features judges, drug court participants, and a typical drug court team, including prosecutors, law enforcement officers, probation officers, correctional officers, and treatment providers. Program participants candidly share their experiences with drug court and the positive impact it has had on their lives. Team members describe drug courts as an innovative model of collaboration that has changed how they work together, and increased their success with one of the toughest populations to address in the criminal justice system.
Drug courts focus on the offender's addiction to alcohol and other drugs, using the coercive power of the courts to keep an individual in treatment long enough to experience the benefits of and lay a solid foundation for a life free of drugs and crime.
