Contact the office of the Judge scheduled to preside over the hearing or trial at least a week prior to the scheduled date to reserve a Nomad.
If you don't know the name of the judge or his/her phone number, contact the Assignment Division Office.

Reserving Presentation Equipment

What presentation technology do you offer?

Available technology depends on the location.  At the main courthouse, we offer two styles of mobile presentation carts known as Nomads (PS Series and PD Series).  Nomads contain a projector, document camera, and audio system.  You can attach your laptop computer to the unit using VGA or HDMI or DisplayPort connections.   For a complete list of the types of technology offered at each location, refer to the Locations and Available Equipment table on this page.

What doesn't the court provide?
  • Laptop or desktop computer
  • Hard wired internet access
  • Access to the Court’s secured wireless internet (wireless guest access is available)
  • Tech support for hardware or software issues. Tech support to start/stop a video during testimony.
  • Responsibility for any damage to non-court owned equipment, even when potentially caused by connection to court owned equipment.

The Court may make exceptions to some of  these rules under extraordinary circumstances as directed by the presiding judge.

For what types of hearings can I request presentation technology?

Jury trials, court trials, any type of pre-trial hearing including motion hearings, where evidence might justifiably be offered.  It is not appropriate for most first appearances or settlement conferences.

How do I request specific equipment?

Contact the presiding judge's chambers staff via email, telephone, or in person at the prior hearing.  Be clear as to what type of presentation files you intend to use and what technology equipment you are requesting.

How far in advance must I make the reservation?

Make arrangements at least seven days in advance to be certain the technology is available.  Late requests may be honored only if equipment is available. 

Is there a fee?

No.

Can I hook up my own laptop to the presentation equipment?

Yes.  VGA, HDMI and DisplayPort connections are available.  You should bring your own cable, including any necessary audio connections.   If the cable is non-standard, mention to the clerk what type it is so that he/she can check with the I.T. department.  You may need to provide an adapter.  Consider bringing a backup laptop with the same presentation files that you can use in case your primary one fails.

Can I bring in a flash drive? A DVD or CD?

If your hearing is at the main courthouse or the Juvenile and Family Justice Center, whatever you bring in must play on your laptop.  Be sure the laptop has the correct software.  For other locations, whatever you bring in must be playable on Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player.

Do you provide internet access?

Wireless guest access is available.  Your PC must be able to operate wirelessly.

What assitance do you provide?

The court will deliver reserved equipment to the courtoom and make sure it's in working order.

Will anyone assist me in use of the equipment of setting up the internet access?

No.  If you are unfamiliar with presentation technology setup, you should bring someone with you to assist. To set up wireless internet, choose the wireless connection MJB Guest.


VideoConferencing (ITV)

Is ITV available for Ramsey 2nd District case participants who are unable to attend hearings in person?

Yes, under specific circumstances.  The presiding judge must approve.  ITV must be available at the participant's location and you must confirm arrangements at the other end.  If approved, give the judge's clerk the information needed to make the arrangements.

Can I reserve ITV equipment and a room here in Ramsey 2nd District for a hearing in another location?

Yes, provided the hearing is a Minnesota Judicial Branch case.  Request that the presiding judge's law clerk work with 2nd District Administration 

Is ITV available for depositions?

No.
