Conciliation Court
Conciliation Court, also known as "small claims court," is a division of District Court that handles civil cases involving money claims of $10,000 or less. In Conciliation Court, parties can bring relatively small claims to court without expensive costs, attorneys fees, or complicated legal procedures. Mediation is an option if you wish to settle your Conciliation Court dispute in less time. Please read about using mediation to settle a dispute.

- NOTICE: Effective October 22, 2012, eFile and eServe will be available in Conciliation Court. Use of the system is voluntary and limited to legal professionals.
- Effective August 1, 2012, the dollar limits in Conciliation Court are: $10,000 for general claims; $4,000 for consumer credit cases; and $15,000 for forfeitures. Read the changes to the law in MN Statute s. 491A.01 subd. 3.
- Effective August 6,2012, "Special Term Motions" will be heard at 1:30p on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month.
- Effective October 18, 2011, Eviction actions combined with a Conciliation Court claim will no longer be handled in a “consolidated” (combined) hearing. Conciliation Court claims filed in relation to an eviction action will be heard at a different day and time in Conciliation Court. - Effective August 1, 2010, Conciliation Court can hear cases involving seized property in non-DWI forfeitures valued up to $15,000.00.

| Legal Advice Clinic |
| Volunteers from the Volunteer Lawyers Network provide free legal advice on Conciliation Court matters. If you qualify based on low income, you can meet face-to-face with an attorney for 15-20 minutes who will answer your questions and/or refer you to other places for help. You must be screened for financial eligibility to use the clinic. People are helped on a first-come, first-served basis.
