Subpoenas

Subpoenas for civil cases are processed according to Rule 45 of the MN Rules of Civil Procedure. The Court Administrator issues a subpoena form with the court's signature on it to the party requesting it, and the party must fill out the relevant blanks in the subpoena before having it served. An attorney licensed in Minnesota may also issue and sign a subpoena on behalf of the Minnesota court where the case is filed.

In Person

A party in a case filed in the 4th District Court can get a civil subpoena by visiting the Civil Intake Counter on the 2nd floor (public service level) at the Hennepin County Government Center. There is a fee for each subpoena requested which must be paid at the time of the request unless there is a current fee waiver (IFP) ordered for that party.

By Mail

A party can also request a subpoena related to a 4th District Court case by sending a letter request that includes the court file number along with a check made payable to "District Court Administrator" with the fee for each subpoena to:

4th District Civil Court
Attention: Civil Filing
Hennepin County Govt. Center
300 South 6th Street, #C-332
Minneapolis, MN 55487-0332

The fee must be paid at the time of the request unless there is a current fee waiver (IFP) ordered for that party. Please allow two weeks for processing by mail.
