Petit Juror Information

Please complete your questionnaire and send it to us within 10 days. You are required to appear at the Jury Assembly room located on the A-level of the Hennepin Co. Govt. Center in downtown Minneapolis beginning at 8:15 a.m. on the date indicated on your summons.

First Day: Report at 8:15 a.m. to receive orientation and instructions. Usually, if you are not on an actual case, you will be dismissed about 4:30 p.m.

Second and Subsequent Days: Report to the jury lounge at 9:00 a.m. unless you are given another reporting time. If you are serving on as a juror on a case, go directly to the courtroom or follow instructions the judge has given you as to the time and place for reporting. If you are not yet on a case, you will be dismissed about 4:30 p.m.

Overnight Stay: You are normally not required to stay over night while deliberating a verdict in a civil case.

Length of Service: Jury service is for a two-week period. If a case is expected to last longer than two weeks, the judge will talk with you about this expectation.

Lunch: You may bring a lunch. We will give you information about local restaurants and parking options on your first day of service. Also see Going to Court for more information bus, parking and transit options.

Accommodation: If accommodations are needed during jury service, contact the Jury Office before your reporting date.

Appropriate Dress: You are expected to be neat in appearance at all times. Casual dress is acceptable.

Child Care: If you meet specific criteria, you may be eligible for reimbursement for child care.

Pay for Jury Service: Petit and Grand Jurors are compensated for jury service at a rate determined by the Supreme Court for the days physically present in court, plus round-trip mileage from the juror's residence to the Government Center. This payment is meant to cover incidental expenses, such as lunch and parking while on jury duty. The amount will be computed and then mailed to your home address about two weeks after completion of your jury service.

Bring the top portion of the summons with you everyday. We will be taking attendance with it everyday.
