Court Records

Records are kept by the Court office in which they are filed.

Civil Division

For Civil Records, that office can help you look up the status of the case if you supply the file number or the full names of both parties to the case.

Call (651) 266-8237.  We cannot do a search for a file number without the full names of both parties.  This is to insure that we do not give out incorrect information.

Criminal Division

To find out the status of a criminal case, call (651) 266-8180. For more information, visit the Criminal Records web page.

Other Offices

For other offices, check their individual pages or call them directly. Refer to the Home Page for information about which Department oversees which types of cases and how to contact that office.

Copies

To get a copy of a court document, call or visit the appropriate court division to submit your request.

The more information you can provide, the more likely it is that court staff can locate the document you are seeking.  Typically, you will have to provide full names of the parties or the case file number

The cost for a certified copy of a court record is $14.00; the cost for a plain copy of a court record is $8.00.

Transcripts

To request a transcript, if the hearing was before a judge or referee, you must contact the Court Reporter who recorded the hearing. Call the Assignment Division at (651) 266-8303 to help you identify and contact the Court Reporter. You may need to provide the case file number, the full names of the parties involved, the date of the hearing, and the name of the presiding judge.

If the court hearing was before a child support magistrate, download a form to “Request a Transcript” from www.courts.state.mn.us/ctforms or call 651-266-2831 to request the form.

For more information, contact the Assignment Division at 651-266-8303.
