Free walk-in legal advice for low-income tenants and landlords at the Hennepin County Government Center

The Hennepin County Housing Court Project is a joint effort of Hennepin County, Fourth Judicial District Housing Court, the Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis, and the Hennepin County Volunteer Lawyers Network.

Low-income tenants and landlords who meet eligibility guidelines can get questions answered for free at the Hennepin County Housing Court Project, which offers brief walk-in legal advice.

LEGAL SERVICES FOR TENANTS:


  • WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Low-income tenants who live in Hennepin County.  Low-income means you have a gross household income of 187.5% of the federal poverty guidelines.

  • WHEN CAN I TALK TO A LAWYER?

Mornings: Monday and Wednesday through Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (not available on Tuesday)

  • WHERE DO I GO?

To the room next to the Housing Court clerks' front counter on the 3rd floor, in the Court Tower of the Hennepin County Government Center, at 300 South 6th Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

LEGAL SERVICES FOR LANDLORDS:


  • WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Low-income landlords who live in or own property in Hennepin County.  Low-income means you have a gross household income of 187.5% of the federal poverty guidelines.

  • WHEN CAN I TALK TO A LAWYER?

Weekdays: Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

These lawyers are volunteers and occasionally may not be available.  If you need legal advice, and a volunteer lawyer is not present, you may call the Volunteer Lawyers Network.

  • WHERE DO I GO?

To the Self Help Center on the Public Service Level (PSL) of the Hennepin County Government Center, at 300 South 6th Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

THE HENNEPIN COUNTY HOUSING COURT PROJECT IS FOR ADVICE ONLY INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING:


  • Evictions
  • Lease Violations
  • Repair Problems
  • Emergency Repairs
  • Lock Outs
  • Expungement of Housing Court records
  • Service Issues

Representation limited to advice.  Referrals possible.
