Late Payments
Failure to respond to a citation within twenty one (21) days of the date the citation was issued results in increased penalties and fees being assessed. Increased penalties could include any of the following:
- your Driver's License may be SUSPENDED,
- the amount due may be referred to a collection agency who has collection authority and may access non-public government data for the purpose of expediting collection,
- or a warrant may be issued for your ARREST.
Court Required Charges: If the listed offense is "Court Required," a "Summons to Appear" with a court date will be mailed to you within 10 business days after the citation is received by the court. It will be mailed to the address listed on the citation. Failure to appear may result in a Bench Warrant being issued for your arrest

You may bring your ticket in person or mail it with the proof of insurance to any of the 4 District Court locations. Be sure that the proof of insurance covers the OFFENSE date and contains the VIN number of the vehicle. It cannot be a bill or statement. Upon receipt of valid proof of insurance for the offense date, the ticket will be dismissed in most cases.
Defective meters may be reported to the Traffic Violations Bureau by calling (612)348-2040. If the meter is a City of Minneapolis meter, it will be checked within 48 hours by the City of Minneapolis Meter Department. For University of Minnesota meters call (612)626-PARK. If the meter needs to be fixed, the ticket will be canceled. You may check the status of the ticket by calling (612)348-2040 and enter the ticket number. If the ticket has not been canceled, and you would like to contest the ticket, you may do so by seeing a Hearing Officer.
*Suspended Driver’s License due to unpaid ticket
If your Driver’s License has been suspended due to an unpaid ticket, you will need to resolve the outstanding ticket prior to re-instatement of your license. Contact the Traffic Violations Bureau to make the necessary arrangements for payment or a court appearance.
*Revoked Driver’s License
If your Driver’s License has been revoked, you will need to call the State of Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services for assistance at (651)296-6911.
You may need to complete a title transfer with the State of Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services to remove the vehicle from your name as of the date you sold the vehicle. After the title transfer is completed, you should contact the Violations Bureau to transfer the ticket to the new owner.

Ticket payments are processed in the Hennepin County Government Center Traffic Violations Bureau. If an overpayment is received on a ticket, we return the check or money order to the sender with a letter stating the amount due.

If an underpayment is received on a ticket, the check or money order is processed as a partial payment. Payment for the additional amount owed should be using one of the payment methods listed above in "How can I pay the ticket?"

The City of Minneapolis removes of dirt, sand, salt residue, leaves, and debris from the city streets. The City posts temporary no-parking signs when a street is to be cleaned. Vehicles parked on those streets during the temporary parking ban will be tagged and towed.
If your city has declared a "snow emergency," that means that no one can park a vehicle on certain streets for a period of time. Each city has different snow emergency rules. I have a fine from court to pay. How can I pay it?
You cannot currently pay court fine by phone or online.
You can pay with cash, check, money order or credit card, in-person, at any of the four Hennepin County District Court locations.
