Marriage Ceremonies in Hennepin County

"Lucky in Love" - Valentine's Day Weddings Offered Feb. 13

Hennepin County District Court will again offer weddings for couples who wish to get married on Valentine's Day. Because Valentine's Day is on Saturday, February 14, 2026, this year's Valentine's Day weddings will be offered on Friday, February 13. District Court judges have volunteered to perform free marriage ceremonies at the Hennepin County Government Center between 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Couples who are interested in having a judge officiate a Valentine's Day marriage ceremony are invited to register here (one form per couple). Interested couples must also obtain a marriage license from a Hennepin County Service Center prior to the marriage ceremony.

Schedule a Marriage Ceremony

If you want to be married by a judge, please allow enough time to schedule your marriage ceremony with a judge's clerk before your wedding date. Call the judge's chambers to schedule your ceremony for this week or a date in the future. See the List of Judges Performing Marriage Ceremonies for contact information, or call (612) 322-6709 to hear a recorded message.

The Hennepin County District Court is committed to being a welcoming place, both within the court and in the communities we serve. As part of that commitment, you may see judges who are available for marriage ceremonies share personal information (e.g., languages they speak, faith traditions, LGBTQ+ identity, etc.) that is intended to serve as helpful information for couples as they are choosing a judge for their ceremony. In alignment with the court's core values as well as with Minnesota law, all Hennepin County judges perform marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples, as well as for heterosexual couples.

If you need a special accommodation, such as a ceremony performed in a language other than English, please contact us with your request.

Get a Marriage License

Before your wedding ceremony, you must apply for a marriage license from a Minnesota county registrar, which includes the Hennepin County Service Center.  A marriage license expires after six (6) months.  For more information about how to apply for a marriage license in Hennepin County, call (612) 348-8240.

Day of the Marriage Ceremony

When you arrive for your marriage ceremony, you must bring a marriage license issued by any Minnesota county, a photo ID for each applicant, and two (2) adults with photo ID who can witness the ceremony. Judges' staff may assist with providing witnesses at an additional charge. Please make this request at the time you schedule your ceremony.
