Hennepin County District Court »

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hennepin County District Court will not be hosting the annual free Valentine’s Day weddings event in February 2021. We look forward to resuming this event when it is safe to do so.
Due to the current recommendations regarding COVID-19 in Minnesota, weddings with 10 or fewer people in attendance will be permitted in district court facilities. All attendees must wear a face covering and maintain social distance.
Schedule a Marriage Ceremony
If you want to be married by a judge, please allow enough time to schedule your marriage ceremony with a judge's clerk
before your wedding date. Call the judge's chambers to schedule your ceremony for this week or a date in the future. See the
List of Judges for Marriage Ceremonies for contact information, or
call (612) 348-9962 to listen to a recorded message.
If you need a special accommodation, such as a ceremony performed in a language other than English, please
contact us with your request.
Get a Marriage License
Before your wedding ceremony, you must apply for a marriage license from a
Minnesota county registrar, which includes the
Hennepin County Service Center. A marriage license expires after six (6) months. For more information about how to apply for a marriage license in
Hennepin County,
call (612) 348-8240.
To schedule a wedding ceremony in another county, contact
Court Administration in the county where you applied for your marriage license.
Day of the Marriage Ceremony
When you arrive for your marriage ceremony, you must bring your marriage license papers and two (2) adults who can witness the ceremony. If necessary, some judges may assist in providing witnesses for you, but you must make that request at the time you schedule your ceremony.
