Minnesota Supreme Court Announces Vacancies for Three Attorney Members on the Minnesota State Board of Law Examiners

The Minnesota Supreme Court is accepting applications for three attorney-members on the nine-member Minnesota State Board of Law Examiners. The all-volunteer Board is made up of seven lawyers and two public members. The current vacancies are for three-year terms ending on December 31, 2023. The attorneys appointed to this vacancy will be eligible for reappointments to one additional three-year term.
The Board is responsible for the administration of the Minnesota Bar Exam, overseeing bar applicants’ character and fitness investigation and certification process, conducting due process hearings for applicants who are denied admission because of lack of fitness or eligibility for admission, and reviewing policy and administrative issues. The members of the Board meet nine times per year for meetings and hearings that range in length from four to eight hours. An additional two or three hours of preparation is required prior to meetings and hearings. Board members also serve on various committees that meet a few times each year.
The Board employs a director and a staff of 14. Board members are reimbursed for costs of travel and lodging, if necessary.
