How do you order copies?
By Mail: Send a letter request to:

Please include the following in your letter: your name, case number, the document(s) you want, and the kind of copy (regular or "certified") you want. The fee for a regular copy of a document is $8.00, and it's $14.00 for a certified (or exemplified) copy. You must also include a check for the copy fee(s) payable to “District Court Administration.”
In Person: You can get copies for a fee in person at the Record Center in Room B-0100, which is on the B-level of the Hennepin County Govt. Center.
Where are the files kept?
B0100, B-Level Government Center: Civil, Condemnation, Tax, Implied Consent, Torrens, A-Torrens, Criminal, Hospital Liens
Archives: Depending upon the availability of space at the B0100, B-Level location, older files are shipped to an off-site location. To access these files, there will be a wait of several days before they shipped from the off-site location back to the Record Center at the B-Level location.

Are all files kept forever at the Record Centers?
All name changes, divorce decrees and some civil judgments are permanently retained. Destruction of files is determined by the law in MN Statute § 138.17. Contact the Record Center at (612)348-3170 for more information.
